有「恐怖電影之父」、「活屍教父」之稱的好萊塢電影人喬治羅密歐（或譯喬治羅梅羅，George A. Romero）因肺癌長期與病魔鬥爭，於美國時間7月16日在睡夢中辭世，享壽77歲。

喬治羅密歐將活屍帶入大眾文化，1968年推出恐怖經典之作《活死人之夜》（Night of the Living Dead）透過清晰描繪暴力、影射當時美國社會所處的混亂年代，奠定他在美國電影史不可抹滅的大師地位。爾後開發完成的活屍三部曲（《活死人之夜》、《活死人黎明》、《喪屍出籠》）已成為現代活屍電影的原型，更被今日所有活屍類型影視作品奉為圭臬。

面對大師的離去，從活屍夯劇《陰屍路》、漫威超級英雄電影等來自業界的知名導演、製作人等電影人紛紛公開發文表示哀悼。
